Baggage Policy
At Galaxy Trips, we understand that baggage requirements vary depending on airlines and travel preferences. Below, you’ll find general guidelines regarding baggage policies. However, as policies differ by airline and fare class, we recommend checking with your airline for specific details before your trip.
1. Cabin/Hand Baggage
Most airlines allow passengers to carry hand baggage free of charge. Below are general guidelines for cabin baggage:
- Weight Limit: Typically ranges from 5kg to 12kg, depending on the airline.
- Dimensions: Commonly around 55cm x 40cm x 20cm (22in x 16in x 8in).
- Personal Item: Many airlines permit an additional personal item, such as a handbag, laptop bag, or small backpack, which must fit under the seat in front of you.
Prohibited Items in Cabin Baggage
- Sharp objects (scissors, knives).
- Liquids exceeding 100ml per container (must be in a transparent, resealable plastic bag).
- Hazardous materials (explosives, flammable liquids, etc.).
2. Checked Baggage
Checked baggage allowances vary significantly depending on the airline and ticket class. General guidelines include:
- Weight Limit: Ranges from 20kg to 32kg per piece.
- Dimensions: Maximum combined length, width, and height is often 158cm (62in).
- Number of Bags: Economy fares usually include one checked bag, while premium or business fares may allow two or more.
Excess Baggage Fees
Exceeding the airline’s baggage allowance will incur additional charges. Fees are calculated based on weight, size, and the route traveled.
3. Special Baggage
If you are traveling with oversized or special items, such as sports equipment or musical instruments, notify the airline in advance. Additional charges or specific handling requirements may apply.
Examples of special baggage include:
- Sports Equipment: Surfboards, golf clubs, skis, etc.
- Musical Instruments: Some may require a separate seat purchase if they exceed cabin size limits.
- Medical Equipment: Generally permitted free of charge but may require prior approval.
4. Restricted Items in Checked Baggage
The following items are prohibited in checked baggage:
- Lithium batteries (above a certain watt-hour limit).
- Explosives or flammable substances.
- Perishable or valuable items (jewelry, cash, electronics).
5. Lost, Delayed, or Damaged Baggage
In the event of lost, delayed, or damaged baggage:
- Report the issue immediately to the airline’s baggage service desk at the airport.
- Fill out a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
- Retain your baggage claim tags and boarding passes for reference.
- Airlines typically have limited liability for lost or damaged items, but you may be eligible for compensation.
6. Travel Insurance
We recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance to cover baggage-related issues, including:
- Loss or theft of personal belongings.
- Delayed baggage compensation.
- Coverage for high-value items.
7. Airline-Specific Policies
Each airline has its own baggage rules, which may vary by route, ticket class, or membership status. To ensure a smooth journey, we advise:
- Checking the baggage policy on the airline’s website or contacting their customer service.
- Confirming allowances for codeshare flights, as different rules may apply.
